SAVE PILOT ISLAND
Picture
There were 8,403 Cormorants counted on Pilot Island (3.5 acres) during 2024 season (Apr-Sep).  This does not include Pelicans and Herring Gulls.  Pilot Island looks like this today.  As the camera pans over the Island, you notice the Keepers building has roof damage.  The roof is damaged on both sides of the building.  Fish and Wildlife will tell you the failure is due to high winds, however the damage is really caused by acid in the bird guano.  The acid breaks down the shingles and reduces their useful life drastically.   The winds just add insult to injury.  This being a wet year, there is no telling what damage has occurred to the building.
